Changing leaves

I think it's safe to say fall is here to stay...almost as if over night it seems, many of the trees (at least in my neghborhood) have begun to change color and I am seeing some of the most brillirant reds, oranges and yellows I've ever seen. Ottawa has a collection of very beautiful trees, I have many favorites scattered throughout the city, and I'm sure I will mentally collect more over the years. I've been spending a sufficient (finally) amount of time outdoors, in my favorite weather, and my favorite jeans from free people which is yet another lovely treasure from a new most beloved shop of mine: SHOPBOP. These pants fit like a dream, and I am not overstating this. I have scarecely taken them off since thier arrival. I have also recieved this Splendid T-shirt and this Wood Kimono which I am incredibly fond of. Its quite alot thicker than it looks and will surely keep me warm as the weather steadidly continues to descend.

Heather Gray

I am overly fond of this Maxi-dress by Heather which I recieved from Shopbop . Today is the first day of autumn and this dress is true to the season; I feel as though I can rule a witch coven in this dress...the way it flows both with the wind and the lines of the body, makes it a very flowy yet powerful dress. I'm completely in love with the level of comfort and sheer elegance to this dress.  It looks heavy but is n fact very light and will be lovely to layer. It was warm today, however, I've pulled more items from Shopbop that I believe would add perfect autumn elements to this dress:

The items showcased above are: this Tony Burch Clutch , 6 Shore Road Faux Fur Vest (This dress was made for a faux fur vest!), Noir Jewlery arrow necklace , see by Cloe Boots.
I love how versatile the brands that Shopbop carry are! You can create virutally any look imaginable and for a fair price as an added bonus. So if you're like me, a recent graduate with yet to secure my dream job and on a strict budget...then I like to share items which are attainable to either save for or treat yourself with! It's all about smart shopping and knowing where and how to look. Hopefully you guys consider this blog helpful in that department! Anyway, Hope your week is going lovely. Happy first day of autumn, go get some fresh air (then finish off the day with some online shopping perhaps?)

Emeric Chantier

ÉMERIC CHANTIER is an artist/model-maker currently living in Paris. I'm surely not the only one completely blown away by the labyrinthine beauty demontrated in his art work. The minute I came across him, I knew I had to share and do more research. Unfortunately I could not find much on the process or even on the artist himself, however you can visit his website to view more of his amazing art work and read about him. As the entire site is in french, I have translated a quote from the artist bellow for my readers who are interested in learning more about Emeric Chantier and his beautifulartwork:

"My work is related to nature and its relationship with man, it stands as a comparison to our origins , an environmental awareness on the preciousness of our "mother nature" source of all life, a subject that I truly believe in my heart, should be part of a collective consciousness . However , it seems to me important not to fall into a moralizing , to simply illustrate the holding entity of life and at times confront the productions of man. These sculptures take the form of anatomical parts of the man or his creations that fill his daily so he can identify through them without becoming a target. There are simple poetic narratives that should speak for them - even . It is also important to me to show a work detail and quality, so that the observer after reading the general form , may approach and forget to get lost in a universe teeming with life." -E.C

I always love learning about what inspires artists to create and always find it interesting to see what concepts the artist has brought forth and how similar or different they are from our own upon first viewig these pieces. The connection to nature is very present, however I thought, though laced together, the dinstinction between nature and industrialism quite visible in the models with present man made creations that is. And I wonder, what might that represent? After reading the above quote, Chantier's heart clearly lies with mother nature and its gentle laws. It seems that the distinction is meant to be contrasted so bodly in display. What was -the oposition to- what has become? I'm speaking of course of behalf of the production and nature based models, wihch again you can see on his website. Typical of me to post the more nature-based artwork...My favorite I think is the moss/flower covered face, so beautiful and intricately made. Every root, every plant, individual beings coming together to create a united being. I find it almost a direct reflection of our true selves...we are made from a million tiny universes, alive and growing within us. In almost every model I imagine all those tiny worlds, all those possibilities. Isn't it amazing what art can bring out in us? Emeric Chanter's work is breath taking, inspiring and throught-provoking. I hope you ejoy his work as much as I do! Take a couple of minutes to get lost in it.

Lace in Autumn

I am over-the-moon excited to share a beautiful shop I've only recently discovered (most of you have probably already heard of it) called: SHOPBOP . Shopbop is essentially a shop dedicated to aquiring the most beautiful and current designer pieces to showcase and sell in thier shop. They carry one of my favorite brands, as I've metioned before, FREE PEOPLE . Which is where this timeless dress comes from by the way! It was one thing to fall in love with it when I saw it online, but it was a whole other thing to see it in person too. The material is so soft and comfortable, the ruffles and lace so vintage and romantic... and the free people socks I've paired it with are just as soft and lovely! I'm also wearing a UO hat and vintage purse, however, with fall approaching, I think this dress and socks along with some dainty tights, some tassled jeffrey campbell loafers, this casual coat and handsome hat .

I suppose that's what makes fall fashion so fun, the layering! It gives so much more options with our outfits! Not to mention they add to the feeling of being "cozy" wherever you go. This dress is really great for transitioning into fall, although it is a thin lace (a slip or bralet is required underneath), it is long sleeved, soft, and so fun and easy to layer! I look forward to seeing all the different ways I can wear it this season ^.^

POP!

I'm very excited to share another front row shop treasure with you. This adorable blouse (which is currently on sale), is a very welcome addition to my closet. I paired it with this checks skirt from forever21 and a pair of thigh high socks for rather  a "school-girl" look, which never gets old in my opinion. As a comic book reader, I find the "POP!" on this blouse completely charming. I mentioned before how unique FrontRowShop is, even with something as classic as a white collar shirt-they've managed to add quirky details which makes thier product stand out!
I also wore my Daniel Wellington watch (which I've been wearing non-stop). Don't forget you get 15% off at the checkout with the code: curios-doll
I'm a little sad the weekend is over already, it passed much too quickly and the work week  seems so looong. Oh well, coffee, sweaters and good company make the time pass sweeter (I do try my best to have at least two out of three of these at all times). Have a happy lazy sunday!
